SPECIES DESCRIPTION
 
Height: 5 – 30 cm from short caudices or rhizomes
Roots: rhizomes horizontal, slender, bearing dark fibres
Stems: hairs white
Leaves: basal, 1 – 5, divided into three, dark green, shiny, stalk 1 – 10 cm
Leaflets: terminal leaflet sessile, base wedge-shaped, apex obtuse to square, long hairy to hairless, margin round-toothed to saw-toothed; lateral leaflets lobed, ultimate lobes 4 – 15 mm wide
Inflorescence: flowers solitary, flower stalk long-hairy; bracts 2 – 3, simple, similar to terminal leaflets of basal leaves, 3-cleft, inversely lance-shaped to egg-shaped, base wedge-shaped, lateral segments unlobed, margin round-toothed to broadly saw-toothed
Flowers: sepals 4 – 7, elliptic to oval, white, occasionally with a bluish tinge, hairy below, hairless above; stamens many
Fruits: aggregate of one-seeded fruits; fruits not winged, densely woolly, beak straight and hairless
