Athyrium filix-femina ssp. angustum is vulnerable in Saskatchewan because it is limited to the east-central part of the province. It is usually locally numerous but within limited localized areas.
 
SPECIES DESCRIPTION
 
Roots: rhizome short-creeping, densely scaly
Fronds: clustered
Stipes: 15 – 50 cm long, straw-coloured distally, base dark reddish-brown or black, swollen, with two rows of teeth; vascular bundles 2, with a single, U-shaped bundle upwards; scales 7 – 20 mm long, 1 – 5 mm wide, linear to ovate, dark brown
Blades: 30 – 75 cm long, 1 – 1.5 x length of stipe, 10 – 35 cm wide, elliptic, lanceolate or oblanceolate, bipinnate or bipinnate-pinnatifed, narrowed to base, apex acuminate, herbaceous, mostly thin and delicate, veins pinnate; rachis, costa and costules glabrous or with pale glands
Pinnae: sessile to short-stalked, linear to lanceolate, apex acuminate
Pinnules: ± pinnatifed, segments oblong to narrowly deltate, base unequally cuneate, decurrent on to costal wing, or sessile, apex obtuse to acuminate, margin serrate
Indusia: attached along one side, dentate or ciliate, not glandular
Sori: drupe, 3.5-4.5 mm long, red, viscid-pubescent; seed 3-3.5 mm long, yellowish, smooth
Spores: yellow
