Salix reticulata ssp. reticulata is threatened because it is rare and highly regionally restricted in the province. This species is usually locally numerous within limited areas. No threats are known or anticipated for this species at the present time.
 
SPECIES DESCRIPTION
 
Height: prostrate, diminutive, less than 10 cm tall
Stems: mostly in the form of rhizomes, buried under the soil; branches light brown, stout; branchlets green to greenish brown, glabrous
Leaves: simple, alternate, few, 1 – 6.5 cm long, 0.8 – 5 cm wide, orbicular to elliptic, apex obtuse to retuse, leathery, glabrous, dark green and rugose above, veins sunken, glaucous, sericeous and strongly reticulate below, margins entire to indistinctly glandular or crenate, revolute; stipules absent
Inflorescence: catkins small, appearing at the same time as the leaves, on slender peduncles; staminate catkins short; pistillate catkins 0.5 – 3 cm long, 2 – 22-flowered
Flowers: staminate flowers with 2 stamens, filaments pilose at base; pistillate flowers with white-sericeous ovaries
Fruits: capsules 4 – 5 mm long, sericeous; bracts yellowish to dark red, usually sericeous
