Armeria maritima ssp. interior is threatened in Saskatchewan because it is rare and highly regionally restricted. This subspecies is known only from the Lake Athabasca region and is almost always locally sparse. No immediate threats are known for this species.
 
SPECIES DESCRIPTION
 
Height: 2 – 60 cm
Roots: erect
Stems: scapose, erect, glabrous or hairy
Leaves: 1 – 5 cm long, 2 – 3 mm wide, glabrous, 1 – 3-veined
Inflorescence: involucral sheath 5 – 30 mm long; outer involucral bracts 4 – 14 mm long, more than half as long as inner ones, ovate to triangular; heads 1 – 3 cm wide
Flowers: monomorphic (all stigmas papillate, pollen reticulate) or dimorphic (papillate stigmas, finely reticulate pollen and smooth stigmas, coarsely reticulate pollen); calyx glabrous, teeth triangular, awned or not; corolla exceeding calyx or reduced, pink to white
Fruits: capsule circumscissile at or below middle, 3 – 4 mm long; seeds 2, reddish-tan
