Astragalus bodinii is endangered in Saskatchewan because it is extremely rare and highly regionally restricted in the province. Most local populations are small. Possible threats have been identified for this species.
 
SPECIES DESCRIPTION
 
Roots: taproot woody
Stems: caudex branched; stems decumbent or ascending, 10 – 30 cm long, branched, often mat forming, glabrous or sparsely strigose
Stipules: 1 – 7 mm long, connate
Leaves: compound, alternate, petiolate to subsessile, odd-pinnate
Leaflets: 7–15, 4–12 mm long, oblong to oblanceolate, apex rounded, glabrous above, strigose below
Inflorescence: raceme lax, 3 – 15-flowered; pedicels 1 – 2 mm long; peduncle axillary, longer than leaves
Flowers: calyx tube ~ 2.5 mm long, half as long as flower, teeth subulate, strigose, black-hairy; corolla 7 – 10 mm long, light purple at tip; keel 5 – 8 mm long, as long as wings; wings entire; stamens 10, diadelphous; ovary superior
Fruits: legume short stipitate or sessile, erect, 5 – 10 mm long, beak to 2 mm long, ellipsoid, hairs black and white; seeds ca. 2 mm long, brown, smooth
