Raup’s Indian paintbrush is threatened because of extreme rarity in Saskatchewan. In addition, it is regionally restricted to the northern part of the province. No threats are known or anticipated for this species at the present time.
 
SPECIES DESCRIPTION
 
Height: 30 – 50 cm
Stems: usually several, slender, green or purplish, long or short-hairy
Leaves: on the stem, 2 – 5 mm wide, linear or lance-shaped, tip tapered to a long point, finely hairy, margin entire or occasionally with a pair of lateral lobes
Inflorescence: unbranched, dense, flowers sessile; bracts oval to lance-shaped, violet-purple, short-hairy, margin with a pair of lateral lobes
Flowers: sepals violet-purple, 4-lobed, short-hairy; petals 1.5 – 2 cm long, shorter than bracts, stiff-hairy, upper lip hooded, violet-purple; stamens 4, in two rows of two
