Saskatchewan: silty, sandy, or clay soils on eroded or grazed grassland slopes and flats

Halimolobos virgata is endangered because it is rare and somewhat regionally restricted in the province. In addition, population sizes vary. Possible threats have been identified for this species, including occurring in a fragile habitat.
 
SPECIES DESCRIPTION
 
Height: 20 – 40 cm
Roots: taproot slender
Stems: caudex small; stem solitary, simple to sparingly branched, pubescence mixed, long, branched, or straight hairs
Leaves: basal rosette, 1 – 4 cm long, 3 – 9 mm wide, narrowly oblanceolate to lanceolate, pubescent, margin entire to dentate; cauline leaves alternate, sessile to auriculate clasping, 1 – 4 cm long, 4 – 6 mm wide, slightly reduced upwards, lanceolate to oblong, margin dentate to entire
Inflorescence: raceme ebracteate; pedicels slender
Flowers: calyx purplish; corolla to 4 mm long, white with pinkish veins
Fruits: silique 4 – 10 mm long, 1 – 2 mm wide, terete, purplish, glabrous; seeds biseriate

Halimolobos strongly resembles Arabis. The two species differ as below. Only one species of Halimolobos occurs in Saskatchewan.
