Largepod pinweed is endangered in Saskatchewan because it is rare and highly regionally restricted in the province. Most local populations are small. Some populations may be protected within the Athabasca Sand Dunes Park Land Reserve.
 
SPECIES DESCRIPTION
 
Height: 10 – 60 cm
Roots: taproot slender, dark reddish-brown to black
Stems: perennial, erect to decumbent, thin, < 2 mm wide
Leaves: alternate, stalkless, 3 – 5 mm long, 2 – 3 mm wide, leaves of basal shoots lance-shaped, stem leaves linear-oblong, lower surface hairless except midrib and margin
Inflorescence: slender, branched, cylindrical, 1/3 to 1/2 of plant
Flowers: sepals nearly round, outer sepals shorter than inner; petals 3, dark red, minute; style absent
Fruits: capsule 3-locular, barely exceeding sepals, fruiting sepals obtuse or rounded at base; seeds 4 – 6, shaped like the sections of an orange, light brown, interruptedly coated with gray membrane
