Listera borealis is threatened because it is rare or uncommon in Saskatchewan. It is only somewhat restricted but is almost always locally sparse. Possible threats are inferred by occurrences in heavily populated areas, fragile habitats, or areas of possible planned developments.
 
SPECIES DESCRIPTION
 
Height: 5 – 25 cm
Roots: rhizome short; roots fibrous
Stems: slender to stout, slightly 4-angled, succulent, glabrous, green
Leaves: 2, opposite or subopposite, near middle of stem, 1 – 5 cm long, elliptic to lanceolate, apex obtuse to rounded, green to dark bluish-green
Inflorescence: raceme 2 – 9 cm long, 5 – 20-flowered; bracts lanceolate to oblong; peduncle and rachis glandular pubescent; pedicels filiform, glandular pubescent or glabrous
Flowers: calyx and corolla greenish or yellowish with darker green veins, reflexed; dorsal sepal linear to lanceolate, falcate; corolla linear to oblong, falcate; labellum slightly narrowed in centre, shallowly notched, auricles divergent; column 2 – 3 mm long
Fruits: capsule ellipsoid
