White-stem blazing-star is endangered because it is extremely rare in Saskatchewan. This species is limited to one very small area and is almost always locally sparse. No immediate threats are known for this species.
 
SPECIES DESCRIPTION
 
Height: 15 – 40 cm
Roots: taproot
Stems: often branching from the base, white, hairless below, may be rough hairy above
Leaves: basal and on stem, variable, some leaves entire, others lobed
Inflorescence: solitary or a few in loose flat-topped clusters; bracts smooth to square-toothed
Flowers: sepals 2 – 3 mm long; petals 5, 3 – 5 mm long, 3 – 4 mm wide, inversely egg-shaped, yellow; stamens numerous, shorter than the petals, lacking sterile stamens
Fruits: capsule; seeds 10 – 40, hanging down, angular, winged, bumpy
