Leaves: | opposite, sessile, 1 – 4 cm long, 1.5 – 3 cm wide, upper leaves usually wider than long, ovate to rotund to reniform, base rounded, margin dentate | ||||||||||||||
Inflorescence: | flowers solitary in leaf axils; pedicels 1 – 4 cm long | ||||||||||||||
Flowers: | large, showy, zygomorphic; calyx 5 – 12 mm long, campanulate, lobes unequal, angled, green, becoming inflated in fruit; corolla to 25 mm long, bilabiate, upper lip spreading or relaxed, throat more or less open, bright yellow, often red-spotted, pubescent in the throat | ||||||||||||||
