Minuartia rubella is vulnerable because it is rare or uncommon in Saskatchewan. This species occurs in two or three general regions of the province. Most local populations are small. No threats are known for this species at present.
 
SPECIES DESCRIPTION
 
Height: 1 – 15 cm
Roots: taproot present
Stems: caudex branched, perennial; stems tufted, prostrate to decumbent, cushion- forming, to 10 cm across, dichotomously branched above, glandular-pubescent above
Leaves: opposite, appearing whorled because of weakly developed fascicles of secondary leaves, sessile, clustered on bottom quarter of stem, 0.3 – 10 mm long, < 1 mm wide, linear, flat, 3-ribbed
Inflorescence: cyme few-flowered or flowers solitary; bracteate; pedicels slender, glandular-pubescent
Flowers: sepals 5, 2.5 – 4 mm long, lanceolate, acute, 3-ribbed with narrow, scarious margin; corolla shorter than calyx, elliptic to obovate, white
Fruits: capsule equalling to exceeding calyx, narrowly ovoid, 3-valved; seeds dark or reddish brown, finely tuberculate or rugose
