Yellow evening primrose is vulnerable in Saskatchewan because it is limited to the southern portion of the province and most local populations are small. At the present time, this species appears to be secure and no immediate threats are known.
 
SPECIES DESCRIPTION
 
Growth Habit: perennial, tufted
Roots: taproot thick, fleshy
Stem: absent
Leaves: basal rosettes, blades 5 – 25 cm long, inversely lance-shaped to oblong, deeply lobed with downward pointing lobes on lower ½ of blade, midrib prominent on lower surface; stalks shorter than blades
Inflorescence: flowers sessile in leaf axils
Flowers: hypanthium tube 4 – 7 cm long; sepals 1 – 2 cm long, lance-shaped, green, free tips 1 – 5 mm long; petals 1 – 2 cm long, bright yellow, drying pinkish; stamens 1 – 2 cm long; style 1 – 2 cm long
Fruits: capsule 1.5 – 3.5 cm long, narrowly ovoid, 4-winged; seeds dark reddish-brown to black, narrowly winged
