Common butterwort is vulnerable in Saskatchewan because it is rare or uncommon. Its occurrence is somewhat regionally restricted and population sizes vary. No threats are know or anticipated at the present time.
 
SPECIES DESCRIPTION
 
Height: commonly more than 10 cm
Roots: taproot small
Stems: without leaves and terminating in a solitary flower, hairless
Leaves: basal rosette, 2 – 5 cm long, 1 – 2 cm wide, inversely egg-shaped to elliptic, yellowish-green, succulent, glandular-hairy on upper surface, acting as traps for small insects, margin rolled
Inflorescence: flowers solitary
Flowers: nodding; sepals 5-lobed, upper lip 3-lobed, lower lip 2-lobed, head-like hairs; petals to 2 cm long, 2-lipped, lower lip terminating in a spur, purplish-violet
Fruits: capsules erect, 4 - 6 mm long
