Puccinellia distans ssp. hauptiana is threatened because of extreme rarity in Saskatchewan. This species is somewhat regionally restricted in the province. No immediate threats are known but may occur in the future.

blades shorter than inflorescence, 1 – 2 mm wide, flat to involute; sheaths open; ligules membranous; auricles absent

Inflorescence:

panicle 2.5 – 20 cm long, diffuse, lower branches horizontal to reflexed

Spikelets:

2.5 – 7 mm long, 2 – 7-flowered

Flowers:

glumes rounded, veins obscure, apex acute to truncate; callus slightly pubescent; lemmas 1.5 – 2 mm long, herbaceous, glabrous or slightly pubescent, rounded, obscurely 5-veined; palea usually glabrous
