Shinyleaf spiraea is vulnerable because it is rare and highly regionally restricted in Saskatchewan. This species is usually locally numerous within limited areas. No immediate threats are known but may occur in the future.
 
SPECIES DESCRIPTION
 
Height: 30 – 80 cm
Roots: usually rhizomatous
Stems: simple to sparsely branched, erect, hairless or nearly so; branches erect, smooth, reddish-brown
Leaves: alternate, simple, leaf stalks 4 – 10 mm long, blade 2 – 5 cm long, 1 – 2.5 cm wide, oval to egg-shaped, tip and base rounded, shiny and green above, pale below, margin saw-toothed, occasionally slightly lobed; stipules absent
Inflorescence: branched, terminal, 3 – 8 cm wide, flat-topped, branches hairless; flower stalks 3 – 8 mm long, hairless
Flowers: regular, nearly odourless; hypanthium cup-shaped, hairless to slightly hairy; sepals 5, 0.5 – 1 mm long, triangular; petals 5, about 2 mm long, white or pinkish-tinged, tip often notched; stamens 15 – 25, inserted on edge of hypanthium between petals and nectary; ovaries 5, not fused together
Fruits: aggregate of pods, hairless or nearly so; seeds irregularly spindle-shaped, yellowish to reddish-brown
