Floccose tansy is vulnerable because it is restricted and is endemic to one region in Saskatchewan. This species is usually quite numerous, but in limited local areas.
 
SPECIES DESCRIPTION
 
Height: 10 – 80 cm tall
Roots: taproots to slender rhizomes
Stems: woody, at least at the base, may be purplish, hairless at base to densely long-hairy upwards
Leaves: alternate, 3 or 4 to many, central axis scarcely or not at all winged, 5 – 20 cm long, 2 – 8 cm wide, reduced upwards, oblong, 2 – 3 times pinnately lobed, densely long-hairy, at least when young, hairs white to yellowish
Leaflets: opposite to subopposite, lance-shaped to oval
Inflorescence: heads 5 – 10 in terminal, dense to open clusters, 1 – 2 cm wide; stalks densely white to yellow long-hairy; bracts in 2 series, overlapping, densely long-hairy, tips and margins more or less dry and membranous; receptacle convex, naked
Flowers: ray flowers few, 1 – 1.5 mm long, conspicuous, marginal, female, yellow; disc flowers many, perfect, yellow
Fruits: achenes angled or ribbed, commonly glandular; pappus a short crown or absent
